Catch Up
Oops. Have to play catch up and stretch my memory. Been a little relaxed with the blogging!
I did a 22k run three weeks out from the half marathon event and was really happy with my time and how I felt. I was definitely ready to end once I hit the 22km mark but it showed me that if I build up slowly but surely I will be able to achieve my goal of running a marathon next year. And I loved it. I had a realy good time out there in the sunshine, with the wind in my face. My pace was around 5:43 as I had decided not to push, just enjoy. Heaven!
The following weekend I ran a 14k at race pace. That was delightful after a week of shorter runs. I felt good at the pace and breezed through it. I felt confident about my ability to hold 5:35s which was my goal.
The next weekend (the last one before race day) I did a fast 7km at 5:20s. This was just to keep me warm and used to pushing a little bit as I would have dearly loved to run a negative split.
I really despise tapering as it gets me out of the habit of running. I think from now on that I should still run three times the week before but just do shorter distances as I find I start to feel lazy and get into that mode of operating.
And, well, race day was a disaster, but that is another story…. WIll post that shortly.
Update done!
